a lot if not all of the planning for the boston reception was done by Long's bro Dung (pronounced Yom). so as soon as i graduated from BYU we hopped on the plane and were straight to Boston to get everything organized. first stop was to buy longie a cute new and FITTED suit for the big day. he was tempted to get the $700 suit but his logic caught up to him and settled with a calvin klein suit.
next was to talk to the restaurant. part of the vietnamese tradition is to rent out a viet restaurant and order a ten course meal for each table. that meant we had to reserve 23 tables. that means a LOT of mulahh coming out of fam bams pockets. i picked out the table cloths and there were an exchange of viet words and we were on our way to check out the cake. the cake was a mix of a birthday celebration/wedding glitz.
everything was coming together! i was excited to be a part of what was left of the planning.
#1 we needed to get the marriage license on monday since we got in on a saturday=closed. monday morning i got a lovely wake up call from mr longie saying "please tell me you brought your passport". i freak out and roll out of bed with my vikky C (victoria secret) hair and panicked. i specifically asked longie before we left for boston if i needed it. he said no. so i packed up my provo home and stored it into a friends garage along with long's things.
this was the PROBLEM: in Boston, if you are going to get married all you need is a drivers license (which they told Long). what they DIDN'T tell long was that if you are UNDER 24 you need a PASSPORT or BIRTH CERTIFICATE. it takes 3 days to process the paperwork. which means the latest we could get our certificate was that tuesday. so i took out my IPHONE and called for a SWAT team consisting of Rebecca Hurst and Stephanie Willoughby. when luck was running out, i called my BFF and roomie for life Lauren Fulton. she left work and straight the garage and FOUND my passport within 10 minutes. thank goodness for expedite shipping, we got it the next morning at 10am and filed for a marriage license.
#2 with finals, cleaning checks, graduation, family visiting, endowments, and an open house just a week before i would say there was a bit of stress and so i got a canker sore taking up half of my bottom lip. let's just say i could not eat, smile, or talk. if you have never had one, count your blessings.
#3 along with the canker sore, i got a head cold and cough. i was under the weather the whole week.
this was probably the best wedding week ever so FAR!
#4 a bachelorette partayyy was planned the night before my wedding friday april 29th. all my family was in and ready to meet the Nguyen family. we did a little site seeing and eating and were excited to be with the whole family.
mr longie told me that we needed to get flowers for the bridesmaids bouquet and my bouquet because the lady doing the center pieces didn't have enough time to make the rest. one problem was if you buy flowers to far in advance, you need to refrigerate. and there was no room. so we HAD to wait til friday. so long called me out to go purchase the flowers. we pull up to a parking lot. i hear from long "hmmm.....?". i panicked. supposedly there is a farmers market with no set hours that sets up whenever. well i guess long didn't get the memo that they discontinued the farmers market.we had no flowers less than 15 hours away from the wedding. no big deal right?
long pointed to Home depot and said... "lets get some flowers there!"
so we walk in.. and i knew at that moment i was about to hold a pot of flowers for my wedding. and all the bridesmaids were going hold pots. and the men were going to wear pots on their tux's.
if you are a male and thinking to yourself "whats the big deal?" just go ask a girl please.
anyways. we had to go back and get ready for the family dinner.
let's just say i lost it. my pops pulls me out and calmed me down and him being a disney decorated i knew that he could pull out his bomb tinker bell pixie dust and make something happen.
what happened to the bachelorette partay you ask? well.. our partay consisted of us and i mean ALL of us going to grocery stores buying grocery store bouquets, balloon ribbon, and then going out and pulling
#5 if not having flowers wasn't bad enough longie calls me after all the bouquets were assembled and said "the party favors aren't finished and there are 250 of them". some would just go to sleep. NOPE. i grabbed a bridesmaid at 12am and worked on the dang party favors. got back to the hotel at 3am.
#6 i was exhausted and wanted nothing more but a peaceful sleep. BUT i knew i was going to be sleeping in the same room as my pops. and lets just say he isn't the most PEACEFUL sleeper ever alive. so long and i were on the search for some earplugs stopping at 3 different gas stations. no luck. i sucked it up and pretended to not hear it. with a little few shouts here and there saying "DAD! DAD! DAD!!! BE QUIET" but he didn't budge. and soo with approx 3 hours of sleep i woke up and was ready to get the show on the road.
my mom fed me a bagel, my sister serene did my make up and hair and i was ready. we got to the temple 40 mins early.
i cannot explain to you how much satan was working on me. the temple wedding was more perfect than i had ever imagined.
all the upsets, the colds, the frustrations, the tears well.. i guess you could say it was worth it after being in the sealing room.
and that is how i became Lillie Nguyen. with a bouquet.
not a pot.
I Love hearing about your wedding!! Especially the potted plants! LOL! The colors were amazing! Soo pretty!
